A place for growth and empowerment in the heart of the community
The NHS Center for Sustainable Communities (CSC) in Compton combines health, housing, economic development, employment, conservation, small business, and public safety resources all under one roof. Surrounded by green space and gardens where neighbors can simply pick the food they need, this community space is for the people.
Featuring resource-efficient utilities and community-oriented functionality, CSC Compton was built from the abandoned shell of a long defunct grocery store. We purchased the property and redeveloped it into a sanctuary using sustainable design principles.
Today, it also serves as a hub for our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Corps Program, and provides office space for partners including PCR Business Finance and the Sanctuary of Hope.

EMS Corps Program
Our Compton EMS Corps Program is an opportunity for individuals age 18 to 26 to gain training that will prepare them for a job in emergency response and other medical fields. Successful students can earn 17 college credits and go on to pursue careers as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), paramedics, or as firefighters.
This 5-month program is a cohort-based experience in which members learn and develop together. It combines rigorous EMS training with robust wraparound support, including an earned monthly stipend, career exposure, and job placement.
USDA People’s Garden
The USDA People’s Garden at Compton CSC welcomes neighbors to grow and enjoy fresh produce together. This urban agricultural project promotes sustainable gardening practices while nurturing habitats for native wildlife. Come join us and see the natural magic for yourself.
Compton Farmer’s Market
Vendors mingle with neighbors to celebrate fresh produce and good vibes at the Compton Farmer’s Market. Food, art, music, and community empowerment make this a truly memorable event. Contact our team for information about scheduling and vendors.

Small Business Development Center
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) hosted by PCR Business Finance provides resources for small businesses at every stage of development. It’s part of a nationwide program that partners with federal and private entities to provide small business owners with access to free management consulting, low-cost entrepreneurial education, and other valuable business resources.
Local entrepreneurs can visit the SBDC at CSC Compton to get assistance with:

Sanctuary of Hope
The Sanctuary of Hope provides services and support for youth ages 16 to 25. This includes financial assistance for under-resourced youth who are low-income, child welfare or justice impacted; housing or economic insecure; expectant and parenting; domestic and trafficking survivors; and/or at promise.
