Oscar and Elizabeth Hernandez had been looking for a home for 3 years after deciding that it was time to leave their apartment. The stairs and lack of washer/dryer had become too much.
The couple needed room to host their children and grandchildren. They dreamed of backyard barbeques!
Oscar envisioned a “family beacon where everybody can meet up.”
With support from NHS and the Greenline Home Program, they purchased a single-family home in Lancaster.
To Elizabeth, HOME means “a place where family gathers, a place to create memories.”
“We’re thankful,” she added.
Oscar agreed, “it was a pleasure working with NHS. They kept us in the loop from start to finish.”
Stephanie Nickles & Joseph Pedro Lopez

Stephanie Nickles lived in the same apartment for 33 years, working the night shift at the U.S. Post Office. She has been wanting to purchase a home for over a decade.
“I always dreamt of living in a condo,” she shared.
Her son, Joseph, was born and raised in San Pedro. He saw an opportunity for his mom when a new development was constructed nearby. With support from NHS and the Greenline Home Program, and funds from her Thrift Savings Plan at work, she recently purchased a 2-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom condo.
“It was perfect timing,” said Stephanie, who told Joseph, “just go and handle it.”
Since his father passed away in 2025, Joseph has been focused on “thinking about the long term as a family.”
“It was time and space coming together in one moment,” he added.
Congratulations to both of them for taking this important step toward building intergenerational wealth.
Stephanie said she feels wonderful about her new home.
“I’m living in dreamland.”
