Appointments Now Available  

NEW CalAssist Mortgage Fund Program

Available for Eligible Homeowners up to $20,000 in grant funding per household.

Disaster relief grants are available to eligible homeowners whose homes were destroyed or left uninhabitable as the result of the January wild fires, flood or other declared disaster since January 1, 2023.

  • Eligible homeowners can receive 3 months of mortgage payments, up to $20,000.
  • Applying is free and grants do not have to be repaid
  • Approved grants will be sent directly the mortgage servicer
  • Funds will be awarded for as long as they are available
  • Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted

Eligibility Requirement:

  • Applicant’s primary residence was destroyed or left uninhabitable due to a qualified disaster from January 1, 2023 through January 8, 2025
  • Applicant meets program income limits of $140,700 for the County of LA as a maximum income for all family members on the deed of trust.
  • Applicant has a mortgage or reverse mortgage
  • Applicant owns a single-family home, condo or permanently affixed manufactured home

The application portal will open  June 12, 2025.

Applicants are encouraged to take the following steps to prepare to apply:

  • Review the list of qualified disasters for this program to ensure you qualify
  • Confirm the program’s income limits (vary by County)
  • Check to see if your mortgage servicer is participating
  • Gather the paperwork required for the application:

What documents are required?

  • Completed online application
  • Most recent mortgage statement
  • Proof of identification
  • Bank statements (all accounts for 2 months prior to application submission date)
  • Last utility bill available for the damaged property
  • Income documentation (i.e. paystubs, tax returns, or unemployment verification)

NHS Financial Counselors will be on site at the Altadena Public Library on Thursday and Friday, June 12th and June 13th to conduct in person appointments for wildfire survivors who need application assistance. Please call the office for an appointment time.

NHS provides direct lending to support inclusive, economic development in underserved communities. This practice enables us to create homeownership opportunities, improve housing conditions, prevent foreclosure, and help low-to-moderate income families secure a mortgage they can afford. Families interested in purchasing their home can work with an NHS Lending Counselor to find the right affordable loan. Families who complete the FasTrak Homebuyer Education Class can receive guidance in applying for downpayment assistance. NHS Lending Counselor’s can access special programs at the local, state and federal level which provide loans to qualified families to help them purchase a home. These funds can be applied toward your closing costs or to your downpayment to lower your monthly payments and make them more affordable.
