9/11 Reflections
Dear Friends,
9/11. We declare a Prayer for Peace and Equity. Twenty years later, we pause to honor the fallen, we honor those who fought for freedom, and today we lift up our country to our eternal heavenly Father to guide the future towards true democracy. We lift up our leadership to guide our nation battered by a pandemic, inequities, and slowed progress.
Let us be more vigilant than ever before with a 20 year history now cemented to a post 9/11 world. Let us look upon the terror in rage no more. Let us look upon the destruction in revenge no more. Let us “look to the hills from which cometh our help” for guidance and love. What can we say our country has become in the 20 years since 9/11? Within the past year alone, our lives have been impacted in ways unimaginable. We reflect on the imagery glaring across our TV screens on this day in 2001.
We recognize loss. Even today, at 9/11’s mark, we’re battling a pandemic that has wrecked terror on all of humanity and unfortunately claimed more lives than we would ever have imagined. Lives we wish were still here like the lives of thousands lost 20 years ago. 1 life, 2,977 lives or 2,587,381 lives lost all leaves holes in hearts in families, communities, neighborhoods, cities and nations that cannot be filled no matter how many years pass.
For peace, for equity, we should be focused on the Golden Rule to “treat others, as we would treat ourselves”. For we each are stamped with the “Imago Dei” the Image of God. Let us move past being united in fear and revenge, but let us allow “perfect love to drive out fear” and let love draw us near.
Our interconnectivity across race, religion, creed and culture weaves our futures together as the tapestry of humanity. To truly overcome the tragedies of the past, and navigate our way out of the present global pandemic, let us view this 20 year marker in history as a turning point for our country as we continue to aim in thought, word and deed to truly be the United States of America. May God Bless America and may America Bless God.
